Holiday Homework

This holiday, we'd like children to create their own book! We are sending home the text to 'Sharing a Shell.' 2B know this book very well and have already adapted it to 'Sharing a Cave.' So, now it's time to let your imagination run wild and create your own version, 'Sharing a .....'

Children can use the text from the book and swap the setting and characters for their own.

I can't wait to see some wonderful books!

An example:

Look! A wolf, a wolf with no den.

or

Look! A pigeon, a pigeon with no nest.

Note it down...

A few notes/reminders...

1. To celebrate the success of our Woscars ceremony, the end of our Media Magic topic and our lovely Shirin leaving L we are going to have a shared lunch on Thursday March 28th.  Please support us by sending a food contribution in.

2. This week, reading books will all be collected in and given out again after Easter, this is so that the school can complete an inventory of which books we have.

3. Holiday homework will be sent out on Wednesday and will be on the blog.

4. There will be no spelling this week. Spelling will resume the first week back after the holiday.

5. Book week will commence on our return to school and there will be a best dressed HOMEMADE fancy dress prize. The characters should be from your favourite books (not Spiderman etc) and can be as creative as you like.

Multiplication Problems
Please write the sum and the answer for each question and READ THE QUESTION CAREFULLY!
1. There are 3 ladybirds on a leaf. Each ladybird has two spots, how many spots all together?

Literacy

Create another treasure map (just like we have been doing in class) - make sure you label each area using adjectives, for example, 'slimey, silky spider cave.' You must write 'start' and 'treasure' on your map with a trail from one to the other. When you have made your treasure map, write a letter to Pirate Long-Bottom explaining exactly how to get to the treasure! Don't forget to use positional and directional language (on, under, next to, on top, left, right, North, East, South, West.... etc)

GOOD LUCK!

STOP the clock!

This week we have been learning how to use stopwatches. We all chose 10 tasks that we'd like to try, for example: 'jumping' or 'saying your full name.' Then we predicted how many times it could be done in 10 seconds or 30 seconds. We then used the stopwatches to accurately measure how many times something could be done in a given time.

3-way conferencing

3-way conferencing starts tomorrow. Please don't forget to bring the sheet that your child has assessed their own strengths and targets on. The conferencing is time for your child to discuss their work with us. The sessions are 10 minute slots and the dialogue will mainly be about how your child feels about their work and whether they understand their next steps.

See you soon!

The sheet should look like this:

Spooky Adjectives and Similes

Today we read our setting descriptions and used a picture of a haunted house, sound effects, musical instruments and puppets.

Can you hear the adjectives and similes used?

2B's Spoooooooooooooooooky News

2B have been learning about haunted houses. (Yassin) We watched some short clips to get more ideas. (Cassie) We have been writing a description. (Noura) We watched a clip with and without sounds and found out that without sound effects it wasn't very scary. (Fuad) It was boring without sound. (Keishi) When we went into Year 3, the classroom was darker than ours. (Max) In our descriptions we were trying to include lots of adjectives and trying to interest the reader. (Naomi) We made scary finger puppets to use when we read our descriptions. (Sarim) 2B also learnt (after feeling a little scared) that monsters aren't real. (Louisa) We made monster puppets. (Ela)

Tick Tock, Tick Tock

Today we revisted time for the first time since December. 2B were fantastic at recalling how to read the time. Some drew the hands on their clocks so quickly that they were able to move onto riting time problems for other children to answer.

Homework 12th March

Thank you to all of those who handed in some wonderfully creative homework. A lot of time went into making super books, which we've really enjoyed reading this week.

For homework this week...

Literacy

This week we have been story writing and concentrating on describing a setting. For homework, please write a description of a spooky house. You may use the picture below, find your own or draw one. Use adjectives, similes, onomatopoeia and alliteration to enhance your frightening descriptions.

Numeracy

Please focus on money. Complete a problem just like the ones we've been looking at in class. Choose an amount and see how many different ways you can make it. You may choose 5p, 10, 15p, 20p, 50p or 100 pounds. Whatever you choose make sure it's a challenge! click here for printable money to help you. The British coins are: 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, 1pound and 2 pounds. There is also an online game to help you make 10p, click here As always be as creative as you like with how you choose to present your work!

Team Problem Solving

Today we problem solved -

'How many ways are there to make 20p?'

We found 33 ways but we are not sure if we are right...can you help?!

How many different ways can YOU make 20p? Try it at home and leave us a comment...

Grams and Kilograms

How much does it weigh?

2B have moved on from weighing in cubes (non-standard measure) and are now weighing in grams (g) and kilograms (kg), these are called standard measures.

Talk, talk about Maths

In 2B we are working on being able to discuss our work in Maths. It's just as important as being able to solve sums or problems. We talk about: how we might go about solving problems, different ways that we might try solving them, any problems we had and then we reflect by talking our work through with our learning partner. Here Keishi talks about solving money problems...

Creating Characters

Dear World,

I'm Edward, I created characters for my book called Sharing a Forest. I thought Big Foot was a good character to use because it would make the story scary and fun!

Sharing a Cave

We loved Julia Donaldson's 'Sharing a Shell' so much that we decided to write our own version. Here Yassin reads Sharing a Cave. Do you recognise the plot?

Homework 5th March

Again, what a wonderful week for homework. Well done!

Literacy

This week we have adapted and rewritten one of Julia Donaldson's books, Sharing a Shell. Our class book is called 'Sharing a Cave' and is set on a mountain! Once we have finished the books, you'll be able to see them on our blog.

Follow the same path as we did in class and adapt one of your favourite stories. Keep the flow of the story the same but replace the characters, settings and events with your own creations! Maybe your story will be called Siddler, Sharon Took's Favourite Book or The Fuffalo. Next week you will have an opportunity to share your story with the rest of the class - think about your audience and how you might make the story lively and interesting.

Numeracy

After some excellent thinking about charts, graphs and measures, we are moving onto time! Start by checking you can still read o'clock and half-past. When you feel confident with this move onto quarter to and quarter past. Then challenge yourself to be able to read the time in 5 minute intervals.

Be as creative as you like...write a diary with exact times, make a clock, create some time problems (your learning partner could work them out), perhaps you'll choose to link Numeracy and Literacy this week and write a similar story to Simon Bartram's Man on the Moon... However you decide to learn, I'm looking forward to seeing it!

Here's some online activities linked to time...

Interactive Time Game
Time Calculations
Time of Day

Extra

Here's a few websites to help you practise multiplication...

Camel Multiplication
Maths is Fun Times Tables
Multiplication Quiz

Look at us having fun with online Maths!

Try, try, try again!

I know a few people were still having problems leaving a comment on the blog. I have altered the settings once more so hopefully it'll be easier now. Please do try again to leave a comment and let me know if you are still experiencing any issues...

Superb exampes of Homework

Noura estimated and measured capacity
and then found the difference between the two!
Well done to everyone who handed homework in this week, the standard is superb!

Haidar focused on grams and cleverly presented
his findings in a bar graph.

Here are two examples of great homework on measure. Well done Haidar and Noura!
