Homework 26th February 2013

Dear 2B,

I was very impressed with the homework that I received this week. It seems you really enjoyed learning about tangrams! As always there were some very creative pieces.

Here are two examples of great homework this week:

I really like that Keishi chose a topic that interests him and created this fantastic information page, which includes: tables, facts, images, headings, labels and much more. Well Done Keishi!

Daniel created several wonderful Tangrams using the strategies we learnt in class. I really like the coloured paper and size of this homework. He was also able to use special Maths words to tell me how he solved the puzzles. Well Done Daniel!

I think it's important that you are in charge of your own learning and choose to find out about topics that interest you. So, here's some ideas that you might like to do for homework linked to our classwork:

General Ideas
  • Continue with activities from the Media Ladder
Literacy Ideas
  • Write an author study (like the one where we used the ipads to research information about Julia Donaldson)
  • Write a character description of your favourite Julia Donaldson character
  • Write a story following a similar pattern to the ones that we have read this week (we will be writing a story together next week so this would be great practise)
  • Write a book review
  • Write a prediction of a book that you haven't read yet
  • Present similarities and differences that you find between different books
Numeracy

  • Investigate and record how heavy different food packets are, for example, how many grams are in a cereal box? Can you think of anything else that weighs around the same?
  • Find various bottles and using a jug find out how many ml of water they can hold. Then put them in size order and take a photo!
  • Click here for games about organising data and block charts
  • Perhaps you really want to find something out about your families like and want to design a tally chart and graph

Most importantly, have fun and I can't wait to see your homework next week (I always look forward to seeing what you have done!)
